Not many ten-year-olds know what they want to be in life. Usually they want to tackle the typical hero job. Like be a police officer, firefighter or even Batman. However, I knew I wanted to change the world in a different way. I wanted to use my voice to make an impact. This is what has led to my interest in public relations.
Coming into college, not only did I absolutely know I wanted to do PR but I knew I wanted to work for a non-profit and use my public relation skills in and effort to create change in the world. This ties into exactly what public relations is. In PR you either want to change people's attitudes, behavior or awareness and in the effort to make the world a better place. I want to create a positive change in the world.
Within my journey of falling in love with public relations, I have learned to love perfecting my craft. I have taken numerous courses at SUNY Plattsburgh, that have helped me progress with my vocabulary and grammar. I have also learned to make my writing stick in the minds of those who read it in many PR writing courses.
My knowledge of what PR entails has become greater due to the practical experience. I have been a part of the colleges student-run public relations firm, Cardinal PR. I am also committee chairperson for a non-profit called Shine On! Within Cardinal PR and Shine On! I have written numerous grants, press releases, presentations, run off shows and more. I have also ran a 24-hour conference, events and board/committee meetings. My road to perfecting my craft has only continued in my year-long journey as the colleges social media intern.
Over the past few years I have accumulated a 3.7 GPA. I've also found myself on the Dean’s and President’s Lists every semester. I believe if you’re looking for a public relations practitioner for you non-profit, I would be the perfect candidate. Allow me to create a positive change for you and your organization.
