To work for an advertising company as a copywriter creating and designing advertisements.
Growing up in a small town in upstate New York, I never really thought about a career in advertising. I really only ever saw small businesses and advertising never interested me. You see advertisements every day and never think too much about what goes into them. When I graduated high school and started college at the University At Albany I decided to study English. I then realized book reports are not are not my passion: I love writing. I decided journalism was a way I could still write, but I could do it in a different format. I took a class on media design because it was required for my major and that’s when I fell in love.
The principles that I was learning, including the Gestalt Principles and the programs we were using, such as InDesign and Photoshop, were all things that made sense to me, it all clicked in my brain. It was then that I decided I wanted to design advertisements. I did research and found out that I could continue on with my Journalism major and become a copywriter which is the appropriate title for what I wanted in my future.
I transferred from UAlbany to Plattsburgh State University where I could further my education in journalism and get a minor education in Graphic Design. I’ve had a lot of practice with the Gestalt Principles, writing and designing projects on the computer. I have a lot of ambition and passion for the type of work I will be doing which would make me a great, hardworking employee.
I am interested in jobs where I will be working with computers, designing and writing advertisements, whether those ads are for television, web, magazines or newspapers. I can put them together and create works of art persuading people to buy a product.
I look forward to working for you, as your copywriter/designer.
